Memorial Day is more than just a day off of work and school for Americans. It’s the perfect time to attend some of these great activities and honor those that have given the ultimate sacrifice for our country and to teach our youth what it really means. Following is a list of some events going on in the Ann Arbor area.

Saturday, May 26th

  • Annual Riverside Park Pops Concert. Free concert by the Ypsilanti Symphony Orchestra. 3:30pm. Taking place at Riverside Park in Depot Town. Bring a blanket or chair and enjoy this annual event.
  • VFW Annual Open House & Memorabilia Display. 10am-5pm. Free. Located at VFW Graf-O’Hara Post 423: 3230 S. Wagner, Ann Arbor. View one of the largest private collections in the Midwest, including uniforms, weapons, field gear, personal items, and more from the Spanish-American War until the present.

Sunday, May 27th

  • VFW Annual Open House & Memorabilia Display. 10am-5pm. Free. Located at VFW Graf-O’Hara Post 423: 3230 S. Wagner, Ann Arbor. View one of the largest private collections in the Midwest, including uniforms, weapons, field gear, personal items, and more.
  • Arborcrest Memorial Park- Annual Memorial Day Observance. 2pm. Free. 2521 Glazier Way, Ann Arbor. Includes Boy Scouts, Washtenaw County Honor Guard, trumpet performances, and more with U.S. Rep. John Dingell and State Rep. Mark Ouimet.

Monday, May 28th

  • Parades:
    • Glacier Area Homeowners Association. 10am. Leaves from Green Brier Park. Watch homemade floats and decorated bikes, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, local businesses, police car, fire engine, and more march the neighborhood and end at Glacier Park for a short remembrance ceremony.
    • Dexter American Legion, Dexter Garden Club & The Village of Dexter. 9 am. Ceremony to honor veterans at the Monument Park gazebo followed by the parade which begins at Inverness and Main and ends at the gazebo. Refreshments at the American Legion afterward.
    • Chelsea American Legion. 10 am beginning at the Municipal parking lot #5 (behind Purple Rose Theater), ending at the Oak Grove Cemetery with a ceremony.
    • Manchester American Legion. 11 am beginning at the Main Street bridge.
    • Saline American Legion.  10 am. Begins at the Fire Station on Michigan Ave and ends at the Oakwood Cemetery.
    • Ypsilanti. 11 am. Begins on Huron St. at Michigan Ave. and ends at the Highland Cemetery with a ceremony and wreath laying.
  • Yankee Air Museum Annual Open House & Memorial Day Observance. 8am-2pm. Free admission. Located at Willow Run Airport: 47884 D Street, Belleville. Includes aircraft exhibits, special performances, flight simulator, kids activities, blood drive, pancake breakfast ($4/child, $6/adult), and more.
  • VFW Annual Open House & Memorabilia Display. 10am-5pm. Free. Located at VFW Graf-O’Hara Post 423: 3230 S. Wagner, Ann Arbor. View one of the largest private collections in the Midwest, including uniforms, weapons, field gear, personal items, and more.
